Kath Leone is a London-based artist and pattern designer from Cape Town, South Africa. Her screenprints depict scenes inspired by the natural world, both on land and underwater. Her art style is recognisable by an energetic use of colour and movement.
Kath wishes to highlight the preciousness of ecosystems and seeks to raise awareness of their fragility. Like little moments captured in time, she transforms the wild and wondrous into vivid and often spontaneous compositions. She begins by sketching living organisms – from curious creatures to beautiful plants. These evolve into expansive imaginary scenes which she crops to become sets of separate artworks, redraws digitally and then screen prints by hand.
Kath’s love of colour theory, the ink mixing process and experimenting with overlays really brings her pieces to life, adding a touch of magic to the already enchanting subject matter.
