Toby Melville-Brown is a freelance illustrator and screen printer based in London who studied at Northumbria University. His practice is driven by a curious interest in the synthetic landscape — drawings that reappropriate architecture, pattern and the nuances of the built environment to produce a calculated and surreal depiction of the familiar. His screen prints focus on conceptual ideas, symbolism and metaphors, with the innovative juxtaposition of elements often resulting in something surreal, humorous or thought-provoking. His Nearly There series — prints that serve as reminders to return to much-loved London haunts — began with London Venues and has continued through Independent Pubs of London (originally created as a pandemic fundraiser), Dungeness and Passing Trains, Tokyo Morning. Notable clients include Burberry, AnOther Magazine, Chris Bangle (ex-BMW Chief of Design) and dn&co.
