The Felix the Cat blotter — sheets of LSD-dosed paper printed with the cartoon character’s image, distributed in perforated squares — became one of the most recognisable objects in 1990s counterculture. Blunt takes the image and applies his characteristic method: found imagery re-contextualised through the screen printing process, the de-bossing technique adding a physical dimension that the original object had in its tactile, perforated form. Blunt’s practice presents the viewer with a quasi-nostalgic look into the darker side of western culture, forcing a confrontation with the possibility of a dystopian now. Signed. £325.
