Kate Gibb describes Annie Hall as her desert island film, something that has never failed to make her laugh whatever her mood, and that affection comes through directly in how this print is made. Working with vintage photographs and a Polaroid-esque colour palette, she set out to capture the romantic, nostalgic feeling of New York in the late 1970s that the film distils so precisely.
The piece was created for the Somerset House and Film4 Summer Screen collaboration, a project that paired sixteen artists with films from the season’s programme. Of all the cultural touchstones she could have worked from, she chose the one she’d watched the most. That specificity shows in the result. Limited edition, signed.
