A cuppa tea is always a good idea — and Jacqueline Colley has made the pun do a significant amount of structural work in both the title and the print. The tea caddy as a vehicle for positivity, the warmth of the subject (tea, comfort, the British ritual of putting the kettle on) matching the warmth of the message.
Colley describes her style as feminine, playful and infused with colour, and her consistent use of wordplay in titles — You Light Me Up, Creative Juice, this one — is part of what makes her work feel generous rather than simply decorative. She studied Graphic Design at Chelsea College of Art, spent six years in textile design and now freelances for clients including Kate Spade and Hermès. Limited edition, signed. £135.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jacqueline Colley
Jacqueline Colley is an illustrator, pattern designer and screen printer based in East London who studied Graphic Design at Chelsea College of Art, UAL before spending six years as a textile designer for H&M and Oasis. Since going freelance she has worked with Kate Spade, Hermès, Great Ormond Street Hospital and London Zoo, designed stationery ranges for Ohh Deer and fabric collections for FIGO, and her work is stocked by Print Club London and Oliver Bonas. She has taught at the V&A and her work has appeared in Marie Claire and Home & Garden. Each screen print begins as a hand-drawn pen illustration, developed digitally before being screen printed by hand in her Hackney studio. Her subjects — travel signage, vintage packaging, botanical symbolism, mid-century design and the objects of everyday life — are treated with the same graphic precision and warmth of colour.
