The night as a different kind of space for the body — looser, less visible, operating under different social rules than daytime. Gavin Dobson's Night Twink uses his loose oil-on-board approach to place a figure in that nocturnal quality, the paint carrying the lowered contrast and heightened atmosphere of nighttime observation.
The word in the title is specific to a particular type within queer culture — younger, leaner, moving through the night with a particular ease — and Dobson's use of it is characteristic of his wider practice: naming things from within queer experience rather than translating them for an outside audience. Oil on board, wooden tray frame, signed. £450.
