Inspired by fantastic childhood movies like Terry Gilliam's The Time Bandits and many happy hours of imaginative play — Dream Battle sits in the most openly nostalgic end of Donk's anachronistic timeline. Gilliam's film shares his interest in children navigating adult situations, in historical time-jumping, and in the gap between how children experience the world and how adults explain it.
Donk grew up in East London, and the imaginative play referenced here has a specifically urban character: wars fought in derelict buildings, battles imagined across the same streets where he'd later paste his images. Limited edition, signed.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Donk
Donk is a street artist working within the paste-up tradition. He combines original photography, printmaking and hand finishing techniques.
He has been placing his work onto the streets of London and elsewhere since 2008.
His images are often inhabited by his family & friends who take on the various roles within his work. The strongly evocative and anachronistic images also remix urban history and culture, across a time line of his own making, at once referencing the past and the contemporary to make playful connections between universal themes of human strength, vulnerability and the passage of time.
