Marilyn Monroe is one of the most reproduced faces in art history, which makes doing something genuinely different with her a particular challenge. Cassandra Yap meets it by putting Monroe through her photomontage halftone process — the image breaking down into dot patterns at close range, the glamour preserved but slightly destabilised, the icon present and also questioned.
She has described Monroe as one of the starting points for her interest in vintage pin-ups: the beauty that was celebrated but also contained, the powerful erotic presence that the culture of the time both worshipped and controlled. Some Like It Hot takes that tension and leaves it visible. Limited edition, signed. £130.
