A ghost print is the second pull from the same painted screen, after the primary impression has been taken. With less ink remaining, the ghost carries a lighter, more spectral quality — the image present as echo rather than statement, the colours muted and the marks degraded in ways that produce something distinct from the original.

Valeska Hykel is a painter and printmaker based in Bristol whose work is an ongoing dialogue between these two practices. She graduated with an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking from the University of the West of England in 2022, where she was awarded the Rebecca Smith Prize for Printmaking. She was selected as a ‘Top Pick’ at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, was Print Club London’s artist in residence in April 2023, and returned for her solo exhibition Intrusions at PCL in June 2024..
