Classical Playboy — the collision of antiquity and a very specific mid-twentieth century cultural moment, the two eras held in Forrester’s characteristic tension between the iconic and the ironic. Stuart Forrester graduated from Central Saint Martins with a First Class BA Hons in Fashion Design, followed by an MA in Film Production Design. He has worked across film production and prop making, art direction for television, product development and interior design before returning to his first love of image making. His work combines classical and modern imagery to create a new narrative showing how time marches forever forward while human fears and desires ultimately remain the same. His art is best described as a dark and subtle clash between the Iconic and the ironic.. The 23ct gold leaf (as distinct from imitation gold leaf) gives this piece a material richness appropriate to the elevated register of the “classical” in the title, while the holographic black glitter asserts the more contemporary and knowing half of the equation.
