1-layer screen print, printed on 300gsm white Somerset Velvet paper.
Castle City — Edinburgh, the city where the castle is visible from almost every angle and height difference, where the volcanic rock of the Old Town creates a skyline that is inherently dramatic. Susie Wright is an Edinburgh-based illustrator and printmaker who studied illustration at Edinburgh College of Art and then at Central Saint Martins, graduating in MA Communication Design in 2006. Her work explores the landscape, architecture, wildlife and flora she finds in her surroundings — Scotland and overseas, including Japan and Australia. Many of her illustrations take weeks to draw by hand, and each separate layer or colour is drawn and adapted as the print progresses. She was shortlisted for the AOI Illustration Awards in 2013 and 2014, and her prints are stocked at the National Galleries of Scotland.. The single-layer approach is one of the most demanding in screen printing: with no second colour to provide contrast or depth, everything depends on the precision and expressiveness of the one layer and the quality of the line. The Somerset Velvet paper gives the print a soft, matte surface that suits the restraint of the single-colour approach. Signed. £110.
