The gold ink version of Taylor's Warhol/Basquiat print — the same nine-layer typography, the same conceptually loaded title, but with a gold ink background rather than gold leaf. Gold ink prints flat and consistently, which gives this version a more graphic, poster-like quality compared to the leaf edition's physical depth and reflectivity. The two versions are related but genuinely different in feel.
Benjamin Thomas Taylor's practice has always treated appropriation as a form of respect — he takes the artists he most admires and processes them through his own visual language, what one gallery describes as a token of his appreciation. The Warhol and Basquiat title invites a different kind of engagement: not just admiring the reference but asking the viewer to inhabit it. Nine screen-printed layers, signed. £645.
