Porto at Dusk — the city in the specific light quality that comes when afternoon becomes evening, the colour shifting in the way that Porto's tiled façades and river light do at that hour. Jessica Rose Bird is a Scottish artist and illustrator based in London who studied Fashion Design at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen. She worked in the fashion industry before becoming a full-time artist in 2018. Her work focuses on the moving body — brightly coloured chalk pastel and charcoal drawings of both the nude and fashioned figure. Her confident emphasis on line gives her work a unique rawness that has captured the attention of clients including Vivienne Westwood, Delpozo, Monica Vinader, E.Tautz and WeTransfer.. The combination of chalk, charcoal, acrylic and oil pastel means each medium contributes a different texture and luminosity to the piece — the oil pastel holding the warmth, the charcoal carrying the line, the chalk providing the light. Our guide to investing in original artwork is worth reading. Signed. £250.

Her work focuses on the moving body — capturing its brief moments of stillness through spontaneous, improvised strokes guided by her medium, the environment of her subjects and colour. Working with highly pigmented paint, brightly coloured chalk pastel and willow charcoal, she has developed a large body of original work alongside her illustration clients, including the 2025 Fig charcoal drawing series, the Porto mixed media works and the holiday-inspired series.
