Donk's contribution to the Choose Love x Help Refugees exhibition brings his paste-up aesthetic and street art visual language to a piece where the entire £95 goes directly to the charity. The blue colourway gives this version a cooler, more restrained quality than the red edition — the message clear and direct in either colour.
The piece came out of six months of Print Club London and Help Refugees curating an exhibition of artist responses to Katharine Hamnett's iconic Choose Love slogan. Donk's work, rooted in the East End and in human themes of vulnerability and strength, was a natural fit for a project about choosing solidarity. All profits to Help Refugees, limited edition, signed.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Donk
Donk is a street artist working within the paste-up tradition. He combines original photography, printmaking and hand finishing techniques.
He has been placing his work onto the streets of London and elsewhere since 2008.
His images are often inhabited by his family & friends who take on the various roles within his work. The strongly evocative and anachronistic images also remix urban history and culture, across a time line of his own making, at once referencing the past and the contemporary to make playful connections between universal themes of human strength, vulnerability and the passage of time.
