Original artwork, 2019. Charcoal, paint and chalk pastel on thick brown paper.
Slowdown and Snooze — the body at its most horizontal, the figure in the state of deliberate non-activity. Jessica Rose Bird is a Scottish artist and illustrator based in London who studied Fashion Design at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen. She worked in the fashion industry before becoming a full-time artist in 2018. Her work focuses on the moving body — brightly coloured chalk pastel and charcoal drawings of both the nude and fashioned figure. Her confident emphasis on line gives her work a unique rawness that has captured the attention of clients including Vivienne Westwood, Delpozo, Monica Vinader, E.Tautz and WeTransfer.. Her work focuses on the moving body and capturing its brief moments of stillness, which makes the resting figure a particularly considered choice: the stillness is the subject, and the energetic, improvised mark-making of her process holds that stillness in dynamic tension.
