2-colour limited edition screen print on GF Smith Colorplan paper, made for the Film4 Summer Screen Prints exhibition at Somerset House.
The Film4 Summer Screen Prints exhibition ran annually at Somerset House’s West Wing Galleries, commissioning artists and illustrators to create new screen-printed film posters in response to the season’s programme. RYCA (Ryan Callanan) responded to Withnail and I — Bruce Robinson’s 1987 film, set in 1969, about two unemployed actors retreating to a dilapidated Lake District cottage — with a 2-colour screen print that captures the film’s particular quality: the British shabbiness and wit, the fog and the failure, the famous quotes that became a shared language for a generation. RYCA is an East London-based artist with a background in 3D design, model making and the sign-making industry who has exhibited in Miami, Berlin, LA, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Oslo. He was selected as BritWeek Visual Artist of the Year 2015. Signed. £200.
