ABOUT THE ARTIST

Stephen Anthony Davids

Stephen Anthony Davids is a fine artist known for his expressive portraits, created using paint or ink on rare papers and found objects. His work, deeply rooted in modern-day London, explores social history while drawing connections to other cultures and historical eras. Themes of inclusion and equality are central to his practice, addressing race, gender, and socio-economic status. His portraits often depict solitary figures, with a strong focus on the face and eyes as powerful tools of communication and expression. Each piece captures a sense of immediacy and urgency, forming an interconnected body of work that serves as an artistic, cultural, and historical archive across various mediums, including wood, canvas, and found materials.

Davids also celebrates the beauty of the everyday, drawing inspiration from folk art and artists who have bridged contemporary art with daily life to create a broader societal impact. His work fosters discussions on identity, belonging, and equality, reflecting his vision for a more inclusive world. Beyond his practice, Davids actively engages with young people facing psychological and behavioral challenges, using art as a means of empowerment. Through his work, he seeks to expand access to the arts, championing opportunities for underrepresented groups and fostering a fairer creative landscape.
