After the success of the original HomeBoy, Donk returned to it using CMYK printing — building the full-colour image from four precisely registered layers of cyan, magenta, yellow and black rather than the direct colour separation of the original. The CMYK approach gives this version a richness and chromatic depth the original doesn’t have.
The homeboy as subject runs through Donk’s work in various forms — the figure of the local, the recognisable face from the neighbourhood, the person who belongs to a place rather than passing through it. He grew up in East London and has been pasting images onto its walls since 2008. This is work made from the inside rather than about it. Limited edition, signed.
