A fairy playground on Hampstead Heath. 6 layer screenprint inspired by two crazy fun mushrooms I stumbled upon the morning before the 'Blisters' deadline. This screenprint was designed exclusively for Blisters: Time to Play in September 2023, which showcased over 50 emerging and established artists, each with a brand new and exclusive edition of handmade screenprints responding to the theme of PLAY. From fairground rides to broader concepts about colour and abstraction, the show comprised an array of styles from street art to fine art illustration. The exhibition presented pieces from renowned contemporary artists such as Anthony Burrill, Oliver Jeffers, Morag Caister, Lucille Clerc, Babak Ganjei, John Booth and many more. And many Print Club favourites of course! Boxed framed, white grain
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kath Leone
Kath Leone is a contemporary artist and textile designer from Cape Town, South Africa. Her highly imaginative, pseudo botanical art features plants, insects, animals, fungi and sea life. Compelled by the glow and depth of overlapping colours in screen printing, Kath aims to capture some of the charm found in old-fashioned fabrics by combining layers of translucent inks to build enchanting colour palettes in her work.
Having a condition called synaesthesia, specifically grapheme-colour and chromesthesia, Kath experiences continual additional colour, texture and shape perception when hearing everyday sounds and words. This saturates Kath’s mind and life, influencing her artistic practice and explaining her obsession with colour-mixing.
