Summer Screenprints Film Poster Exhibition!
Somerset House and Print Club London collaborate on the fifth edition of the Summer Screen Prints exhibition, which brings limited-edition film prints to Somerset House throughout August. This year’s display will be the most extensive to date, with 20 original, screen-printed film poster artworks inspired by the Film4 Summer Screen programme.
Emerging, international artists respond to a moment, theme, character or quote from their favourite film in the season, including Joe Cruz, whose colourful and intimate work captures a pivotal moment in this year’s ‘Best Picture’ Oscar winner Moonlight, while Hattie Stewart‘s bold and striking reimagining of Cruel Intentions bares the malice of the cult film’s protagonist.
This free exhibition, open each day across the season, will enable visitors to buy the original, affordable works at Somerset House and on the Print Club London website for £60. With effortless acess to the exhibition from the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court, film-goers will be able to enjoy special late openings ahead of each film screening.
Joe Cruz is a visual artist, he graduated from Norwich School of Art in 2010, his work spans art, design, fashion and graphics. He was born in London in 1988 and has a multi cultural background, having family from France, Spain, Austria and England.
He uses expressive lines, strong colours and graphical imagery within his work. This is due to Joe’s fascination with bold simple statements, as seen in political posters and advertising slogans. Simple and subversive messages play a key role in his work. He loves working with found imagery, juxtaposing it with bold colourful and strong marks to give the work a contemporary context.
Hattie Stewart is an Artist and Illustrator based in London, UK. Although she is best known for ‘doodlebombing’ over influential Magazines, her tongue-in-cheek artwork moves fluidly between many creative fields including Fashion, Music and Contemporary Art.
Joe Wilson is an illustrator based in the UK specialising in highly detailed, hand-drawn illustrations and print. Working with a combination of pencil, ink and digital colour, joe’s work takes form as a hybrid of the traditional and contemporary.
focusing on intense detail and strong drawing, joe’s unique style and considered draftsmanship attracts a wide variety of international clients, with work ranging from full media advertising campaigns to limited run screen prints.
Rozalina is a freelance illustrator and occasional animator based in London. Born and raised in Bulgaria she moved to London to study at Central Saint Martins College where she graduated in 2015.
Her work is a mix of hand drawn and digital elements united with the magic of Photoshop. Her animations are 2D, jittery and really fun to make. She enjoy rich colours, imperfect lines and subjects caught in dreamy states.
Lucille is a French London based Illustrator. She set up my studio in East London after graduating from Central Saint Martins with an MA in Communication Design and before, from ENSAAMA in Paris with a DSAA in Visual Communication. She works mainly within the field of editorial design and illustration, occasionally also realising interior and exhibition spaces. Her work is mainly handcrafted from drawing to printing. In the past two years she has created projects for Magma bookstore, Laurence King Publishers, St James’s Correspondent, The Loop, Metropolitan Eurostar magazine, Fortnum&Mason, Farrow&Ball, Diamond architects and David Kohn architects.
