Summer Screen Prints with Rose Stallard

Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” is an explosion of colour and conflict. Set in a lively Brooklyn neighbourhood on the hottest day of the year, racial tensions hit their peaks as do the thermometers. Both vibrant colours and personalities are everywhere in this film, increasing the intensity and 80s aesthetic.

Rose Stallard, illustrator and Creative Director of Print Club, mixes up her own drawings with found images from across the board, injecting fanzine-like enthusiasm.
As creative director for Print Club London, how do you feel this years exhibition will compare to the previous shows?
We’re working with some great artists again, and as with the last two shows there’s a few up and coming illustrators to watch out for as well as some gems from the more well known!
What message do you believe your artwork carries besides the actual redesign of the film poster?
Y’All Take A Chill!
Why you chose this film?
I couldn’t resist those 80s colours and then there’s MISTER SEÑOR LOVE DADDY providing an awesome sound track…
Why you picked that particular quote, scene or character from the film?
It captures the sentiment of the film – the hottest day of the year and the troubling conflicts of this Brooklyn neighbourhood.
What do most look forward to each year collaborating with Film4 and Somerset House?
I’m lucky as I get to curate and work with some amazing illustrators but I also get to do my own piece and be part of a really good show.
