This print was created using hand-cut paper stencils. Transparent based ink is used when printing multiple layers to create secondary and tertiary colours on the paper. This experimentation is one of my favourite parts of the printmaking process. This screenprint was designed exclusively for Blisters: Time to Play in September 2023, which showcased over 50 emerging and established artists, each with a brand new and exclusive edition of handmade screenprints responding to the theme of PLAY. From fairground rides to broader concepts about colour and abstraction, the show comprised an array of styles from street art to fine art illustration. The exhibition presented pieces from renowned contemporary artists such as Anthony Burrill, Oliver Jeffers, Morag Caister, Lucille Clerc, Babak Ganjei, John Booth and many more. And many Print Club favourites of course! Boxed framed, white grain
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hayley Murphy
Hayley Murphy is a British artist who lives and works in Margate, Kent, and Philadelphia, USA.
Hayley creates prints with a strong graphic quality, drawn from her affinity for geometry, shape, repetition, pattern, and colour. Her practice hinges on the layering and interplay of these elements, forming the foundation of her printmaking process. Through her works Hayley encourages viewers to navigate the dance between form and colour within her compositions. This captures the delicate balance of both deliberate intention and spontaneous expression in her creative approach.
Notable artists like Bridget Riley, Sol Lewitt, Agnes Felton, Jen Stark, Shannon Finley, and Josef Albers serve as Hayley’s major sources of inspiration.
Hayley studied sculpture and printmaking at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
