Ideal for those new to screen printing and interested in life drawing, this course is perfect for anyone who loves to draw and wants to develop their skills through printmaking. It’s also great for experienced screen printers looking to explore the human form, composition, and working with hand-finished papers.
Our tutor will talk you through some different digital and analogue processes that will help you turn your own image into a usable positive ready to expose on your screen. Don’t worry if you aren’t too familiar with Photoshop or using a computer, the technicians will go slowly through the techniques and ensure that the theory of what they are doing is understood by all.
Your second session, is all about preparing your print in the studios. You’ll do this by beginning to transform your drawings into screenprint ready artwork. Working from your favourite life drawing sketches, our tutor will guide you through the process of hand-drawing your A3 positives—refining composition, scale, and style to suit the print process.
Once your artwork is ready, you’ll move onto preparing your screen. This hands-on session covers everything from coating and exposing your screen to planning layout and paper choices, so you’re fully prepped for printing in Session 3.
Time to bring your artwork to life! You’ll use your prepared screen to print a mini edition of 10 hand-pulled screenprints (on B2 paper).
Jenny Bell is an artist educator from London, with an MA in Printmaking and Post Grad teaching certificate in Visual arts education. Her own screen print practice has been complimented by 15 years of commercial screen printing. Working with individual artists, design teams and music promo to create screen printed editions.
Jenny has a versatile and friendly approach to teaching. She is interested in supporting individuals to find and keep developing their creative practice no matter if you are beginner or seasoned artist/ designer. Her passion for screen printing has been shared across community groups, charities, adult education, further and higher education settings. Jenny joined the Print Club Gallery and studio team in 2019, working freelance on specialist project on site and on location.
Participants must be aged 18 or over and comfortable working in a life drawing setting. Out of respect for the model and fellow participants, photography is strictly prohibited. Please arrive on time—late entry will not be permitted once the session has begun. The model will pose for the group as a whole, not for individual direction or requests.
If you need to cancel or re-arrange your workshop you must do this 14 working days prior to your workshop. Any cancellation within 14 working days of your workshop may result in you not being refunded or a new space allocated. If you cannot make a workshop within 14 working days of your date we will endeavour to fill your space however, a refund or date change can only be made if that space is filled.
