Following the success of ‘VASSLAND’ we thought it made sense to keep Joseph Vass in the limelight! And he was more than happy to take over last weekends Instagram with his #printclubtakeover #vasslandtakeover
Here are some of his best bits…
Hi Guys! @josephvass Here, following on from the show last night, I will be taking over the @printclublondon Instagram over this weekend! Be prepared for snippets of inspiration, silkscreen madness and everything in between!
My all time favourite book, a bible of gonzo literature… A twisted tale from San Juan loosely based on the author’s experience mixed in with a healthy dose of rum induced distortion. Read it, believe it and pretend you’re in the murky paradise created by Hunter S.
New print edition from the ‘Vassland’ series // Rum Diary No.2
One of our favourite things about letting our artists loose on our Instagram, is catching a sneak peek of their work in progress and inspiration from their perspective.  This is ‘Screw Jack’ new print edition from Joe Vass.
Interstellar constellations created on my palette knife whilst mixing colours. Close up snippets of beauty within the process.
One of my all time favourite silkscreen artists – Tim Mara. Created in the days before computers each print was made up of hundreds of hand cut stencils that result in rich tapestries of colour and texture – the master! You can view his prints in the Tate Britain private collection if you make an appointment.
And last but not least, we couldn’t leave without sharing Joe’s famous ‘Kroc Kola’ Vassland shirt! WE WANT!

Make sure you don’t miss the next #printclubtakeover by following us @printclublondon
And if you’re missing updates from the artist himself, go and give @josephvass a follow – he’d love you to!
Visit Spin London 2015 and experience Print Club member Pol Sifter along with Beach-o-Matic’s Tunnel VISION.
A Blacklit, UltraViolet wonderworld featuring great glowing pieces of cutting edge cycle art.
The installation will feature Print Club artists and tutors Marco Lawrence, Simon Fitzmaurice and Oli Fowler, as well as Creative Director Rose Stallard.
Marco Lawrence // Chain Oil and Chimichangas
“The work is based on Mayan textile patterns but with a conscious nod to early computer game graphics.”
Oli Fowler // He Who Dares
“Not really being a biker myself I find it funny that I’ve been involved with a couple of bike exhibitions recently. I wanted my design to look at the younger kids out there because it reminds me of when I was young, bombing around up the woods on my BMX. My Biker print with it’s new layer ‘He Who Dares’ is a reminder for people to take risks in life and not to follow the norm.”
Simon Fitzmaurice // Dunwich Dynamo (Neon Edition)
“A new neon edition of my Dunwich Dynamo illustration, printed with fluorescent inks. It is a tribute to the amazing annual overnight bike ride from London Fields to Dunwich Village on the Suffolk Coast.”
All artworks soon to be available from the Print Club online gallery!
If you fancy getting involved with Spin London this weekend, here’s a handy discount code thanks to Pol at Print Club – Simply enter ‘POSTY’ at the checkout.

Print Club London are proud to be working with Italian illustrator, designer and printmaker Elisa Talentino.
“Elisa Talentino (Turin 1981) is an artist who works with graphic, screen printing and illustration.
In 2009 she has founded the studio “Inamorarti” with the graphic designer and printmaker Paolo Berra with whom she develops an independent illustration, graphic, publishing and screen-printing project.
In 2013 she published with Print About Me Micropress the art-book “Le jardin d’hiver” which has been selected for ILUSTRARTE PRIZE 2014- International Illustration Biennial of Lisbon.
The book won the honorable mention “Lidu Art Books” for the better art-etching book 2014.
She presented in November 2014 at BilBOlbul – International Festival of Comics and Illustration of Bologna – her latest book, “Bendata di stelle”. From a story by the writer Luisa Pellegrino, through the metaphor of stitching, cut threads, embroidery and patches, the book is a reflection on gender violence that dot the bodies and the relationships that we live.”
Print Club will be stocking fine art styled screen prints from both of Elisa’s publications as well as selected works from the artists portfolio.

Thanks to the followers, and to @printclublondon for having me! We’ve got another international takeover planned over the next fortnight, which promises to be one not to miss!!”

RAGE AGAINST RACISM

No to Scapegoating immigrants – Yes to Diversity – No to Islamophobia – No to anti-semitism

Called by Stand up to Racism   #standuptoracism #m21

Racists are seeking to feed on anger and despair. The general election will see politicians competing to scapegoat immigrants and other minorities for falling living standards. The media relentlessly pump out racist and islamophobic lies. this has allowed Ukip to grow and spread its racist poison. Politicians quickly sought to exploit the shootings in Paris to ramp up anti-Muslim racism even further. in France, the fascists of the Front National are gaining support in the polls. in Germany, racists and fascists are on the march against Muslims and immigrants.

But resistance is growing. anti-racists are taking to the streets of Germany to challenge the racist right. in america racist police killings have sparked outrage and the birth of a new anti-racist movement. in Britain millions of people are horrified by the rise of racism — we need to get organised. Come to this public meeting to discuss how we can challenge the racists and their lies.

On 21 March in London, Cardiff and Glasgow, anti-racists will take to the streets to show that that racism will not go unopposed.

House of Astbury is a reflective cycle-friendly street wear brand with a feminist ethos. They are currently in the last few days of their Kickstarter campaign to manufacture reflective leggings!

As with all of House of Astbury’s products, the leggings are screen printed with water-based reflective ink at Print Club London. This means that the designs will then light up in direct light such as car headlights and flash photography – ideal for making the wearer more visible on the road.

The leggings are available in two designs: ‘Thunder Thighs’ and ‘Eyes on the Road.’

‘Thunder Thighs’ is themed around a positive body image, subverting a common sexist insult, whilst ‘Eyes on the Road’ challenges the culture of street harassment.

The leggings are also made with 4-way stretch fabric making them perfect for physical activities such as cycling and running.

House of Astbury hit their initial crowd funding target within the first couple of weeks and due to high demand for the leggings are now aiming for a stretch goal. This will enable them to make the leggings in a greater variety of sizes and possibly develop the leggings in a metallic fabric! To help them reach their target and to find out more, please check out their Kickstarter page:

Print Club artist and technician Guy Gatier has wowed our socks off today with his Back to the Future inspired hover board!

Attachment-1

Yes that’s right – Guy has spent Friday creating an 18 layer screen print onto a glass hover board, including a cheeky glow in the dark layer!!

“This piece is a homage to one of my favourite films ‘Back to the Future 2’ in which the future is set this year – 2015.

The artwork is soon to be available from our online gallery and will come boxed framed with mirrors to reflect the underside.

Where are we? When are we?

We’re descending toward Hill Valley, California, at 4:29 pm, on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015.

2015? You mean we’re in the future?

Future? Marty, what do you mean? How can we be in the future?

Uh, Jennifer, um, I don’t know how to tell you this, but I… you’re in a time machine.

And this is the year ‘2015’?

Now available to purchase from our online gallery: https://pcl2023.wpengine.com/shop/hoverboard-2/

@framelondon2014 have done a great job framing this 3 dimensional, futuristic screen print! Thanks Harry!

printclub

Looking for affordable art that’s cool and contemporary? Look no further. Print Club London is a screenprinting studio and gallery based in Dalston, with a pretty super e-shop too. And I want them all!

Established in 2007, Print Club London is run by managing director Fred Higginson (Sculptor/ Illustrator M.O.L.) and director Kate Higginson. The duo work closely with iconic illustrator and creative director Rose Stallard, who brings the Print Club brand to life with her inimitable 1970s fanzine-style-artwork and edgy typography.

The website ticks all of our online shopping boxes and is so easy to navigate, even your nan could do it. There’s loads of inspiration, it’s easy to buy, delivery is quick, there’s free Click & Collect options etc etc…and if you’re looking for an equally good online framing shop to finish off your pretty picture then go to E-frame for loads of easy (and affordable) mounting and framing options.

Your space will be looking ace in two flicks of an artists brush!!

Check out Love London’s faves here!

CRAIG-KEENAN-FEATHER-EYES-1You all know about our Beginner’s screen printing workshops, but did you know we also hold Cyanotype workshops!

Why not try something new and get involved!! You’ll be taught all about what exactly a Cyanotype is and the process of creating Cyanotypes. You will get the opportunity to make your very own prints to take away and put up on your own walls.

Cyanotypes were originally created for architects and engineers blue print designs, but now artists have adapted this technique and can now create beautiful pieces of artwork for everyone to enjoy.

Here’s a quick run down of the process of creating Cyanotypes;

Unlike screen printing where you would use a positive image, you are wanting to use a negative image for Cyanotype. Once you have your image printed on to a piece of tracing paper or acetate, it’s then time to prepare your paper. We also try to keep things interesting by bringing in an object which you would like to be a part of your finished print, this could be anything, but we think that plants/flowers work great for Cyanotypes.

We coat the paper in a light sensitive solution and leave in a dark room to dry. Once dried we will expose the paper with your negative image using UV light, the light will expose through the negative. We use an exposure unit for this which is perfect so you can decide how long your negative will need to expose.

Once exposed, as if by magic your design will appear as a positive on to the paper. Then all that you need to do is rinse your print under water, so that it will no longer be light sensitive and won’t continue to expose in daylight, wait for it to dry and TA DARR! You have your very own piece of artwork.

Here’s a couple of our Print Club artists who create amazing Cyanotypes;

Craig Keenan

“I’m a Printmaker (with a penchent for screen printing and cyanotyping) And a Photogtapher (with a propensity towards abstract imagery) One tends to inform the other.”

CRAIG-KEENAN-FEATHER-EYES3

Ben Rider

“My Work is built up from a dense hybrid of drawings, collaged imagery and multi – layered colours. I am a big fan the offsets, drips and fades to create an authentic distressed aesthetic.”

If we haven’t convinced you yet, here are a few photos from a previous workshop;

If you’d like to take part in one of our cyanotype workshops, then you can book your space here.

Last weekend we let one of our artists loose on our Instagram for the very first time!!

Whilst Cassandra’s view on Valentine’s is not that of a soppy one, she definitely got our hearts racing as she embarked on ‘Kinkifying’ our Instagram in our very own #PRINTCLUBTAKEOVER

Cassandra Yap // Instagram Takeover

“I was thrilled to be the first artist to takeover and kinkify Print Club’s Instagram feed on Valentines weekend, giving followers a glimpse of the things I love and what inspires me. I wanted my posts to be the antithesisof all the lovey dovey stuff around.”

Keep your eyes open for more Print Club artist takeovers!

I can tell you a little secret…Our next is to be quite exciting to say the least! ENJOY!

The last couple of weeks here at Print Club have been pretty exciting and we can’t wait to share our endeavours with you!

With new artists, projects, exhibitions and collaborations on the horizons! This one promises not to disappoint.

Print Club London are happy to announce that over the next coming months we are going to be working with Joe to produce artworks, soon to be available through the Print Club Gallery.

‘Joe Cruz had us at hello’ (It’s Nice That) and we agree!

After a healthy obsession with Joe’s work, we thought it was about time we invited him to the studio to discuss the possibility of him working on a collection of limited edition screen prints and becoming a Print Club artist.

He seemed pretty happy with that!

“The immediacy of illustration is what is so appealing, I use a wide variety of materials in my work, my favourite tools are my pastels, paints and collage material. Although I would describe myself as a fine artists and fashion designer as well.”

Now he can add ‘Screen Printer’ to the mix…

The freelance artist, illustrator and textile designer makes sweetly surreal and romantic poster styled art. His eye and skill for remixing found objects with glorious flashes of colour is more than eye-catching and has been screaming out at us for some time – we MUST get him in the studio!

Joe’s images, usually sourced from magazines, blogs and trawling the internet for bold and beautiful portraits are used as the basis for his work. These images are then hand finished with bright, bold and often fluoro inks and chalks to create the graphic, surrealist works that we are so fond of.

After we got chatting and carried away (it was hard not too) Joe mentioned the work of ‘Jack Davison’ and how recently, Jack had sent over a file of his own work with the subject ‘Have some fun with these.’

So here we are! Welcome, Jack Davison.

Jack is a London based portrait and documentary photographer, who despite studying English Literature spent most of his time ‘mucking around with his cameras.’ And how happy we are that he did.

We’ve done a little digging and found some wonderful interviews with Jack!

MULL IT OVER

NOPE FUN

His work spans across both London and the States and reflects a powerful maturity not seen in many contemporary photographers at this time and of his age.

Watch this space, as we’ll keep you updated on the boys progress and don’t worry, as soon as their work hits our bed’s you’ll be the first to know about it!!

It’s that time of year again… Be you a lover, hater or not bothered at all!! Here are our Curator’s Valentines picks.

Up at the crack of dawn we made our way to the meeting point under the clock at Euston train station, where Alyson Hurst from G.F Smith is ready and waiting.

Craig and I are have generously be invited by G.F Smith to take a tour of the James Cropper Mill, where they make Colorplan, Zen and Accent papers, to mention a few. The graphic arts team from the Tate are also there, although looking a tad ropey due to their Christmas party the previous evening!!

Our guide Stefan informed us of their deep history and the incredible products currently in production, from the first paper made from recycled coffee cups to the ultra light fabric for Formula 1.

As Mills go, apparently this is a small one. Hard to believe as on arrival the factory resembles the size of a huge Zeplin aircraft hanger! Because of its ‘smallish’ size James Cropper Mill is able to specialise in being versatile and prides itself on being able to produce any type of paper to order, with orders as small as a ton.

When you first walk into the mill you are greeted with huge vats that are bubbling and steaming away with the raw pulp and die inside. Everything is out in the open and often the die is bubbling out!

What amazed me is that the mill is in a constant state of production as opposed to how I imagined with each paper being made separately. The problem here being that it would cost far too much to clean all the miles of machinery in between each run.

So how does it work?!

The lightest colour that has been commissioned is made first, then the second commissioned paper pulp and die is added to the vat until the entire spectrum of colours are made until the deepest black. This normally takes about 2 weeks. Then like something out of Breaking Bad a mysterious team of men work through the night doing a deep clean. The ‘waste’ (the paper that is produced between the two different commissioned types of paper) is as little as 10%

Even this is either re-pulped or sold as kids coloured paper pads. Who knew that your little ones are probably drawing on the most unique colour paper ever made!?

The lab as we discovered was a vital part in the production to make any colour formula that is required, with no demand too great.

All around the Mill are light boxes that are, in an instant able to change the light from our day to day British light to any type of light from around the world.

It was a great experience and when working with such a hands-on practice such as screen printing, it opened my eyes further to the magnificence of humble paper.

Thank you G.F.Smith for the invitation! A highlight of 2014 without a doubt.

With the launch of her brand new solo exhibition Doll House we thought it was about time we also put Hattie Stewart where she belongs…in the spotlight!!

Over the last 5 years and more Print Club London have been proud to work alongside the huge doodle-babe that is Miss Stewart!

She featured in our very first Blisters exhibition ‘Blisters On My Fingers’ and we are always excited when we get a chance to get our hands on her work! Her UBER cool, playful and cheeky illustrative style is ongoing and no influential publication is safe from her doodle-bombing madness that we are so fond off and that everyone loves her for.

Conceived in 2011, it’s an ongoing project series that explores the concept of breathing new life into old ideologies. To date has included Playboy, Dazed & Confused, Rolling Stone and The Face, not name a few.

Below are our favourite pieces of her work available from our Print Club London Gallery!

Simply click on the print you like to be directed to our online gallery.

“Doll House, Hattie Stewart’s first London show at KK Outlet, included everything from her signature doodle-bombings (drawings over the top of magazine covers) to holograms of Kim Kardashian’s Paper Mag cover, complete with a smiling heart-creature escaping from her spectacular ass. “I took it as a challenge, basically,” Hattie told us at last nights opening, “I thought what can I do with only one month and what can I do that I’ve been wanting to do for so long?!” – i – D Magazine
