The prints were so popular and the contributing artists who came down for the night were surrounded by people taking photos of the exhibition and filling in tick lists to take to the shop to buy the artwork.
We’re so pleased that the crowds loved the show, were so buzzed for the Meanwhile gig and enjoyed the drinks from Ruby’s Bar and Lucky Chip burgers. People were still dancing in the yard and alley when security started to clear the venue!
Thanks to everyone who came out to Blisters on Friday night. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better event and we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!
A huge thanks to our sponsors G.F Smith, Screen Tec, FICTION, Sipsmith, Castle Gibson, Ruby’s and Lucky Chip for helping us put on such an amazing show!
If you can’t make it on Friday night, Blisters: Sound Session is also open on Saturday from 11am to 5pm!!
Kids are welcome and can print for free!!
They just have to bring their own T-shirt. Our lovely technicians will be here to help them.
There will be tea, coffee, juices and a lot of homemade nice cakes!!
Our weekend of music and the music-inspired artwork continues on Saturday in MC Motors, the 6000 square ft events venue adjacent to our studios in Dalston.
The 2014 Summer Screen Prints edition at Somerset House is coming to an end with only a few days left and the absolute movie (poster) star has been the E.T. the Extra-Terrestial print by the ever-lovely and talented illustratorRose Blake, which sold out in four days!!!
Rose was given the film that was chosen in the public vote, and she was happy to found out that E.T had been picked. She clearly remembers watching it as a kid and confesses that it really affected her even then.
She decided to focus on the scene where E.T leaves to go home, so her print is about saying goodbye to people. She felt the phrase ‘I’ll be right here’ was a really poignant way of doing so. In the print you are watching the scene from the viewpoint of Elliot’s mother in the film.
Due to popular demand, Somerset House commissioned Rose Blake and Print Club London to produce a second limited edition of the print. With a beautiful additional layer of metallic silver on this new variant of the film poster, this special edition is set to sell out as quickly as the first!
The print is available for pre-order with a 6 week lead time due to printing schedules from this link. You’d better hurry up, guys.
Here’s a little Q&A we had with Rose, prior to tonight’s E.T. screening!
Hiya Rose, tell us who are you
and how has your life changed in the last 5 years…
Five years ago I had just graduated from Kingston, moved back in with
my parents, and was about to start my MA at the RCA in September
In a way it would be quite fun to jump back to five years ago!
What is the first thing you do every morning?
Shamefully I normally spend the first 20 minutes or so on the internet
(but not if I’m really busy).
Why is your work the way it is?
That’s a really hard one – probably a combination of my upbringing, the people I hang out with, and the way I look at things… and the fact that
I’m not actually that good at drawing.
Where do you find inspiration?
At the moment I’ve been reading loads of short stories by Alice Munro, which have been inspiring me a lot.
What was your dream job when you were a little girl?
To be in a rock band I think.
What would be your ideal client / project?
I really want to do more moving image stuff! I’ve actually got such a
long list of projects I want to start for myself. But in terms of a client,
I’d actually really like to design a beer can! And I’d really love to do
some more work for the New Yorker.
What do you think about Print Club?
Are you familiar with the screen printing technique?
Yea, I’ve done lots of screen printing in the past, so I know about how to separate work for print etc. But in terms of printing –the two printers Samand Marco are incredible– my print was really fiddly to print and it’s come out really well. If I’d have printed it myself it would have been all over the place.
What are your feelings on the Film4 Summer Screen project?
Did you attend to any of the screenings?
Not yet, but I’ll hopefully pop down to watch E.T. tonight if It’s not pouring with rain!
How was the creation process of your poster?
I rewatched the film at work, and sketched up some ideas- but I was pretty certain about what I wanted to show from the film from the start. Then
I hand drew the elements which I then assembled and separated in the computer. Then I popped into print club and went over the colour swatches with Marco, to make sure the overlays would print well.
What’s your favourite E.T. movie scene and character?
Well, Elliot is my favorite character obviously! I like the scene where E.T. gets drunk at home and Elliot lets all the frogs go free at school.
The bike scene at the end is brilliant too.
To keep an eye on all things Rose draws, you can visit her website and blogand, of course, follow her on Twitter.

PREVIEW NIGHT ON THE 30TH OF JULY
Back for a second year, Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House has commissioned Print Club London to curate a series of contemporary screen-printed film posters for the 10 year anniversary season.
Renowned for printing, curating and dealing screen-printed artworks Print Club London has hand-picked an assortment of styles and artists, including Rose Blake, Hattie Stewart, Kate Moross, Steve Wilson, Kate Gibb and HelloVon.
Open during the day and for each evening event, the Summer Screen Prints exhibition will feature the great and good of the illustrative world. Each exhibiting artist will reimagine a poster for one of the films in this season’s line-up, bringing a unique and fresh eye to their selected title.
Each film poster will be a limited-edition and exclusively available to buy for £45 from the exhibition at Somerset House.
CONTRIBUTING ILLUSTRATORS AND THEIR FILM TITLES
Born in London, Rose studied at Kingston and the RCA. Her bold playful work is inspired by music, the art world and the relationship between things. She has worked for clients including bbc.co.uk, Random House and Converse. She is also a member of the This Is It collective, and runs the website studiomusic.fm.
All of Claudia’s work is hand drawn combining detail with simple lines and strong narratives. There is often a playful subject matter teasing at the everyday. Her influences range from anatomical drawings to Egon Schiele, Frida Kahlo and Dr. Seuss.
Lucille is a French London based Illustrator. She works mainly within the field of editorial design and illustration, occasionally also realising interior and exhibition spaces. Her personal work is mainly based on the endlessly inspiring architecture of her neighbourhood in London.
Patrick Concepción is the founder and Art Director of Concepción Studios, a studio that focuses on art direction and graphics for the entertainment industry, located in San Jose, California. Throughout his career he has reveled in designing for Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney and MUSE.
Kate Gibb has worked as a printmaker and illustrator for over fifteen years. The kind of printing she is inspired by relies on chance, hiccups and happy accidents. Commercially she is renowned for her music-related sleeve artwork, most notably for a long-standing relationship with The Chemical Brothers.
HelloVon is the award winning studio founded by London based illustrator and artist Von in 2006. Utilising a seamless and dynamic blend of traditional and digital mark making techniques he has accrued an international client list, been featured in publications around the world and become one of the industry’s foremost contemporary portrait illustrators.
Fred Higginson, founder of Print Club London, also works under the name of MOL (Ministry of Love). Alongside his role at the printing studio, Fred finds time to produce silk screen prints and on occasion sculptures. Fred’s techniques are as eclectic as his influences, working across mediums and using materials ranging from Play-Doh to the pencil.
Kate Moross is a 26 year old London based creative, and is the director of Studio Moross. She has a fascination with three sided shapes, illegible typography and freeform lettering.
Mat spends his time doing fantastical figurative illustrations often with obsessive attention to detail, working predominantly with dipping pen and ink. In the last few years he has expanded into screen and lino-cut printing which has led to teaching a BRIT Kids course in Illustration and Printmaking at the BRIT School. He still draws dinosaurs only not quite as well.
Rose Stallard, illustrator and Creative Director of Print Club, mixes up her own drawings with found images from across the board, injecting fanzine-like enthusiasm (and discernment). Clients include The Guardian, Fiction Records, Urban Outfitters, Dazed & Confused and Glastonbury.
Hattie Stewart is a young London based illustrator. A self – proclaimed ‘professional doodler’ her unique and playful style extends itself through art and fashion. Having worked with designers such as House Of Holland, Marc By Marc Jacobs and Adidas, she has also exhibited in Miami, L.A, Bangkok, New York, Berlin and London.
Holly Wales founded her Illustration practice in 2006. Her work explores a variety of subject matter and is predominantly drawing-based. She works with multiple layers of colour and deconstructs forms to build dynamic compositions which play upon chance and process.
Caspar Williamson is heavily involved in the UK printmaking scene, publishes books on the subject and has taught both corporate and educational workshops throughout the UK. He has also exhibited widely and is represented by several galleries.
Joe Wilson is an illustrator based in the UK specialising in highly detailed, hand-drawn illustrations and print. Working with a combination of pencil, ink and digital colour, Joe’s work takes form as a hybrid of the traditional and contemporary.
Steven is an Illustrator who lives and works in Brighton. He can often be found foraging through the local flea markets for obscure books and discarded paraphernalia to use as inspiration for his varied and experimental work which he generalizes as ‘somewhere between pop and psychedelia’.
Cassandra Yap is an artist and art director based in London. Fuelled by her love of pin ups, the female form and an unhealthy obsession with vintage erotica, her photomontage halftone style illustrations are dark, bold and humorous with a kinky edge.

We’re starting to prepare for our annual screen print poster show!
This year it’s Blisters: Sound Sessions.
We are now open for submissions and want to get the word out there to ANY illustrators/aspiring artists who want to take part.
Blisters: Sound Sessions
To fill you in, here are some details about our past shows and what we’re planning for 2014…
Following the success of the Blisters Blackout exhibition last year and the Secret Blisters and Blisters On My Fingers of previous years, Print Club London opens its doors on the 12th and 13th of September 2014 for its fifth annual screenprinted exhibition.
Blisters: SOUND SESSIONS – The Brief
1. Submit a poster in your own style inspired by your favourite band/song/musician/tour/gig.
2. The catch is, you cannot use the name of the band, song or musician! Use of other text is allowed, of course, but this should stand alone as an image/scene or typography.
3. Prepare artwork for a 500mm x 700mm print (B2 format).
4. Most importantly, your work must be COMPLETELY new and original for this project and never seen before! We will not accept any submissions that are displayed anywhere else, including your personal blog or portfolio.
See below for FAQs.
SCREENPRINTING
Our studios are open for successful submissions to print their own work, but if you aren’t printing this yourself do be aware that the more colours you choose the more expensive it is to produce.
There will be 40 exhibiting artists, each with a 40 edition and signed screenprints selling for £40 a pop!
The idea is that whether you are just out of college, up and coming or a well-known artist, everyone is on the same level platform and the prints speak for themselves.
Our aim is to take affordable art prints to a wider demographic, encouraging buyers to invest in original artwork
Artists who have taken part in our Blisters shows before include: Ben Eine, Jamie Reid, Mr Bingo, Stevie Gee, Pure Evil, Peter Stitson, Luke Insect, Anthony Burrill, Cept, Serge Seidlitz, Jon Burgerman, Kate Moross, Ryan Todd, James Joyce, Luke Whittaker, Atelier Mille Deux, Clifford Richards, Run Don’t Walk, Heiko, Gary Taxali, Mike Perry, RYCA and many, many more!
Submissions must be sent as a low-res .jpeg file to [email protected] and the official deadline is 31/03/14.
Last years show – REVIEW
Q: If I have music-related artwork that I’ve used for previous projects, can I reprint this?A: The artwork for your submission should be original. If there are elements from previous projects this is fine but the submission should appear to be new as a whole.
Q: Does the “poster” need to contain text or type?A: No, this is up to you. “Poster” is the format size paper and the term we use to describe this. You can either:
1. create artwork that is composed of an illustration or design inspired by your music icon(s) or song
2. submit an entry composed entirely of a typographic design (as long as it does not mention the song title/group name/artist name)
3. mix the two!
Q: If I have several ideas, can I submit more than one?A: You can submit as many ideas as you like!
Q: When the artwork is printed and signed, do we also need to put a title to it? i.e. the song/band name, or not as it might give the game away?A: We haven’t decided on this yet. Just email us your entries and let us know your inspiration for the artwork!
Q: How much of that goes to the artist? A: 60% of the price go to the artist. Print Club takes a 40% commission.
Q: What happens to prints which remain unsold? A: All prints are sold via Print Club London on our online gallery after the show.
Q: Do they remain the property of the artist or of London Print Club? A: They are owned by the artist but we retain the right to be the only seller of these prints as they are from a show we have curated.
Q: If ownership remains with the artist, can the artist resell them elsewhere – for example, through independent shops? A: No, the prints can only be sold via us.
Q: If the artist is not producing the prints themselves will Print Club be producing them? A: The artists are liable for the printing the work, they can use our studios for free if they know.
If artists are unable to print, they can ask Tuckshop our bespoke printing service. Cost for this are unknown yet but a price guideline can be found on their website. That said, we hope to have paper and ink sponsorship for everyone which will reduce the cost!
Q: Who owns the rights to the image? A: Artists always own the rights to their work. However a rule of Blisters is that the work cannot be reproduced at a later date.
Q: And after the exhibition can the artist then use the image on their own products again? T-shirts, cards, etc. A: No, we ask that the image to be just for the show. This is what makes it ‘limited edition’ and this is a key part of Blisters.
Check out our film, directed and edited by Aden Blue Stanners, showcasing the artists’ work for the Film4 Summer Screens collaboration which is exhibited at Somerset House this month. Find out the inspiration for the artwork and illustrations straight from each artist as they discuss the films they chose and watch the prints being pulled in our studio!
