More to come from this year’s residence! Keep an eye out…
We are so excited to share this collection by Brian Giles AKA Sonofafox, the culmination of the artist’s recent month in residence at our Hackney studios.
“In this body of work, I wanted to explore the textures and rituals found in our seascapes, our relationship with the sea and how it can affect our emotional wellbeing. This is a subject I wanted to explore as swimming helped me immensely during the COVID lockdown.”
Each photograph has been translated into the screenprinting method via CMYK separation, with each layer hand-printed by the artist, experimenting with fluoro inks and colour fades to create dreamlike finishes.
Sonofafox is Brian Giles, an Irish Printmaker and Graphic Designer based in Dublin. Through the process of Screen Printing, he loves to experiment with graphic abstract textures and strong colour combinations. Often combining these two elements to produce bold and colourful artworks.
We are so excited to share this collection by Jemima Sara, the culmination of the artist’s recent month in residence at our Hackney studios.
Using expressive creative methods and immediacy in her process, Jemima’s work draws on day-to-day experiences including inner thoughts and observations, and navigating mental health. It was a joy to have Jemima in the studio and observe her captivating process: fluid and instinctive, Jemima’s drawings are visual diary entries which translated so naturally to the screenprinting and monoprinting methods. Bold mark making injected with Jemima’s sense of humour has resulted in a poignant and relatable collection of works which we are so excited to share with you.
Learn more about Jemima below, and explore her full collection of limited edition screenprints and original one-off monoprints.
Jemima Sara is a multidisciplinary artist who incorporates the fluidity of everyday life, mental health and freedom of expression into her practice.
Her formal training in Puppetry at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (graduating in 2018) followed by a MFA in Drawing at Camberwell (graduating in 2021) has enriched her drawing practice, allowing her to merge diaristic texts with the figurative.
Her practice has evolved to investigate drawing as a form of expression and communication. Driving meaning from the ‘nitty-gritty’ and the day-to-day, her work reflects the tumultuous experience of the mundane existence to ignite conversation as a form of self-therapy or so-called catharsis.
A form of personal outpouring, her illustrative journals are suggestive of wider experiences within both private and public spheres. Scraps of humour provide some relief from the discomfort or awkwardness they may impose.
“I was lucky enough to work with Print Club London on their artist residency. Over the course of the month, Print Club introduced me to many different methods of printing including monoprinting. The residency gave me the opportunity to play and experiment in different styles of printing which mirrors my current style and practice.
I began with working on screenprinting. My method of screenprinting is painting Indian ink directly onto tracing paper and then burning it onto the screen without digitising the artwork. This offers a direct and tangible translation of cathartic release into the works. Moving “the diary of daily journals” to finished screen prints. During the residency I developed my monoprinting process. I admire monoprinting as the speed and spontaneity required does not allow for much flexibility over the composition of the work (as the ink dries onto the screen) and therefore fosters an automatic creative method similar to automatic drawing.
I really enjoyed playing with this instinctual process of making which links closely with the themes within my practice.” – Jemima Sara, 2023
We are so excited to launch this collection by Valeska Hykel, the culmination of her month in residence at our Hackney studios this April.
Abstracting the traditional still life format, Valeska plays with colour, light and composition. Valeska hand paints directly onto the silkscreen which means that although the final piece is screenprinted, each print is a completely unique original artwork, blurring the boundaries between painting and printmaking. Combined with Valeska’s use of high contrast dark backgrounds, the end result is striking, like a uniquely modern take on Dutch Old Masters and their extravagant floral centrepieces.
Interest-free payment options are available, please contact the team on [email protected] if you are interested in paying for your artwork over 10 monthly instalments.
Flying by Valeska Hykel Unique Monoprint, £1,070 or £107 a month for 10 months with Own Art
Valeska Hykel is a painter and printmaker based in Bristol. Her work is an ongoing dialogue between these two practices. Painting directly onto the screen’s mesh she creates monotypes that toy with the boundaries of painting within print. In these works, she embraces the hand of the artist — through expressive brushwork, visible pencil from drawing on the screen and allowing the scars of the process (for example, the textual components of canvas or screen-bed) to add to their narrative. Going beyond the first pull of the monotype, she often finds the finished work in the ghost print. The resulting works, with their muted colour palettes, degradation of image and echoes of the proceeding pull, are haunted versions of the originals, ingrained with their textures and history.
Valeska was awarded the Rebecca Smith Prize for Printmaking. In 2022 she was selected as a ‘Top Pick’ from the Curated Hang by the directors of Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.

We are delighted to introduce you to the nostalgic and optimistic creations of London-based artist Natalia Bagniewska.
With the new year ahead, full of hope and new beginnings, Natalia seeks inspiration from the small, everyday things that make her happy. Flowers, breakfast, a bowl of fruit and a big shell bowl are among the small things in her life that inspire her daily. Accompanied by quotes and proverbs, she hopes the collection will bring some much needed joy and motivation to the world and for the year ahead.
Each of the motifs found in Natalia’s collection have been initially painted by the artist, before being carefully translated into handmade screenprints, created during her month in residence alongside our tutors and curators. A contrasting vintage colour palette and painterly mark-making evoke an atmospheric and uplifting sense to this collection, which we are so excited to share!
We are delighted to introduce you to the colours and textures of Devon-based artist Rosie Harbottle. We have admired Rosie’s work for a long time, and loved having her in the studios this summer. Predominantly known for her paintings and pastel drawings, Rosie spent her month in residence experimenting with screenprinting techniques and we adore the final results! Her bold mark making and rich colour palette is enhanced by patterns hand-finished in pastel.
Discover Rosie’s first collection of screenprints below, exclusive to Print Club London.
Rosie Harbottle is an artist and illustrator creating on the edge of Dartmoor, Devon. Over the years her art has taken her to explore different parts of the world including Morocco where a lot of her inspiration stems from. Mixed with a deep appreciation for the area which she is now based and an upbringing rooted in nature and folk music, Rosie uses a combination of rich colours, mark making and brush strokes to create joyful pieces that explore how it feels to surround yourself with the natural world and the deep happiness that can bring.
‘Sketch Series’ was created at the beginning of Rosie’s residency exploring colour and pattern. Each one in the series is hand-finished and completely unique. Select your chosen design from the drop down menu! Handmade by the artist in our Hackney studios, during her month in residence in summer 2022.
We are absolutely delighted to introduce our next Artist in Residence, Hazel Laing! During Hazel’s month in residence here at Print Club, she worked in our studios creating new pieces working alongside our technicians and gallery curators.
Hazel is an illustrator from Edinburgh based in London. Her process is all about getting messy and drawing intuitively with playful use of her materials. Observational drawing is at the heart of her practice, where she enjoys recording lively depictions of subject and place within her sketchbooks, which she uses to reference her illustrations later. Texture, colour relationships and layers are elements she likes to explore through her artwork. She draws from a wide range of influences such as ballet, costume, paper theatres, old books, and stamps.
Hazel loves nothing more than a chilly drawing trip to the Scottish coast.
We are absolutely delighted to introduce our latest Artist in Residence, Niamh Birch! Her first collection of screenprints were created during her month in residence here at Print Club, working in our studios alongside our technicians and gallery curators.
From moments spent alfresco dining in the South of France, to late night family traditions playing Gin Rummy around the dinner table, Niamh’s work oozes with warmth and nostalgia. We adore how Niamh captures these small moments with such movement, joy, and colour.
Hear from Niamh and explore her first collection below, all available now and exclusive to Print Club London!
Niamh is an Artist born in North Devon, who studied Painting in Bath and is now based in London.
“Working from a combination of memory, drawings and photographs, I depict details and objects from everyday commonalities that are often overlooked, whilst continuously observing beauty within the compositions and patterns I surround myself in. Working primarily in oil based materials and collage on canvas and paper as well as screenprinting, these subjects are illustrated in vibrant and rich colour compositions and thick textures. Aspects of my English and Irish background weave in and out of my paintings, whilst also engaging with my love for warmer climates and alfresco dining. Juxtaposed by harsh black outlines are cheerful and humorous elements, allowing the work to feel precious, yet expressive.”
A dinky albeit loud and proud ode to a favourite family pastime of playing Gin Rummy at the Dining Table. Usually after eating dinner with a glass of wine or a Whisky Mac. This versions printed onto the pages taken from an unwanted organic cook book that was left at one of those bus stop-book shops. It was the last book left and contained some quirky and bizarre recipes that I felt the need to give another life too through screenprinting.
Niamh has printed on old pages from cookery books, each print is unique with lots of different designs. Each print is picked out at random unless stated, to view variations please email [email protected]

Jemima Sara is a multi-disciplinary artist addressing self-expression and aspects of mental health. Her approach to drawing is enriched by a background in puppetry and plays on the fluidity of everyday life.
Merging diaristic texts with the figurative, her practice derives from the ‘nitty gritty’ and day-to-day. Predominantly word and image, these pieces mostly need little explanation as they are, to some extent self-identifying. In recognition, the viewer is invited to question their response and positionally if they desire.
A form of personal outpouring, her illustrative journals are suggestive of wider experiences within both private and public spheres. Scraps of humour provide some relief from the discomfort or awkwardness they may impose.
Tongue-in-cheek and ironic, the gestural mark-making relentlessly deconstructs our constant search for perfection. Jemima tests ways of representing illusions and the mutability of human nature using resonant statements, through her story telling, frank views of the world are captured and articulated.
Led by notions of the ‘political-personal’, the witty and satirical drawings narrate stories of identity, self-observations, mental health, meme culture, graffiti and social media. In reflecting, confessing and revealing the struggles of daily life, they ignite conversation as a form of self-therapy or so called-catharsis.
Kate Mary is a Glasgow-based artist and designer working predominantly with Oil Pastels and Acrylic. She completed her honours degree in Interior Design at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 2019.
Kate’s practice is largely 2D drawings and paintings. These are detailed, idealised representations of places; collaged together to form immersive and calming visions of escapism. They are influenced by memories of local and far-flung journeys she makes, and the architecture, light, and pattern within them. Kate’s work explores and responds to our built environment, capturing moments of intrigue in order to create intimate and otherworldly scenes.
Kate is the 2022 winner of the Delphian Gallery Open Call for both residency and group exhibition. She has recently exhibited with Auction Collective ‘The Beat Goes On’ London Design Festival with Heals ‘Lockdown Art’, Delphian and Murus. She has been featured in Wrap Magazine, Architectural Digest France, the Sunday Times and Reclaim.
Sonofafox is Brian Giles, an Irish Printmaker and Graphic Designer based in Dublin. Through the process of Screen Printing, he loves to experiment with graphic abstract textures and strong colour combinations. Often combining these two elements to produce bold and colourful artworks.
Xander Coy is a British painter and collagist. Heavily influenced by the imagery of Pop Art, Collage and Surrealism he draws on a variety of visuals for his own work, ranging from vintage 1950’s posters to modern day cartoons.
Drawn to collage because of the boundless creative possibilities it has to offer Xander juxtaposes seemingly disparate images and forms to create a narrative. Narratives of escapism, yearning, vulnerability and transience are often the result.
Xander is fascinated with semiotics – how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated is often at the forefront of his thoughts when creating work. Signs and symbols regularly appear often slightly altered or recontextualised to give a different meaning. In the same way a kid might draw a smiley face over a picture of a circled sun or a moustache over a face Xander displays the same playful approach of reinventing familiar images in his work.
Working on canvas and paper as well as on the streets each image he creates is brimming with contrasting colour, pattern, scale, light and shade. Regularly using a hot or cold palette (or occasionally both), surprising harmonies are generated through vibrant chromatic extremes. Colour is king – a realm of constant pleasure.
Having studied drawing and painting at the Slade School of Art, Xander has shown his work at a number of galleries across the UK including Jealous Gallery and Saatchi Gallery. Working from his hometown London, Xander continues to exhibit across the UK and beyond.
Milenko Stevanović is a painter and printmaker from Serbia, currently residing in Cyprus. He graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, Serbia; and completed postgraduate studies in Fine Arts at the Oil Painting Department of the Tokyo University of the Arts in Japan.
Through the practice of direct observation, his work examines the formal aspects of the language of representational art, exploring themes of human form and interactions in an urban environment. Moving between the media of painting, drawing and printmaking, Milenko uses the limitations and aesthetic qualities inherent to each different process to further his ideas of form and composition.
Milenko has exhibited his work internationally with solo exhibitions in Serbia, Japan and Cyprus.
He has taken part in curated and juried exhibitions, most recently the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and the Royal Watercolour Society in London.
We are not currently taking applications for our artist residency, but if you are interested in a future residency then please send your CV and a small pdf of your work to [email protected] with a covering letter and we will save down your application for the next review.
