One of our Millers Junction residents Steve Mitchell also know as FiftySeven has his first solo show taking place at The Book Club TONIGHT!
57Design – Skull Version 2 £95
Fiftyseven’s unique style is built from a dizzying mix of decoration, pattern and symmetry and typography, an overload of quasi-religious, occult and masonic symbolism and anything else that fits. Working with a restricted colour palette and especially favouring metallic inks, his screenprints are usually based around a simple visual concept, revealing more and more detail the closer you look.
Fiftyseven developed the illustration style he calls Neo-Victorian Maximalism when a love of 19th century typography led to designing flyers for steampunk events. From there came the desire to “push the aesthetic as far as it could go, to the point of absurdity”. He’d like to say he’s inspired by the whole history of art and design, but really it’s mostly just heavy metal album covers… further influences include Ian Miller’s intense Tolkien art, the book illustrations of Harry Clarke and (of course) the wood engravings of Gustave Doré.
The Illustrated Letter Project – J, &, S £80 each – A is also available

It seems Print Club London is still a hub of excitement today after last nights super successful and very first Print Swap.
Each artist from the night submitted one print on entry! All of these prints are being auctioned with all proceeds going to Mind.Org
You can bid in our Live Auction over the next 7 seven days and grab yourself something special… PRINT SWAP PRINT AUCTION
It’s easy to get lost in your own world here at Print Club Studio, Millers Junction and Absorb Arts and sometimes we worry that we are just not sharing enough of our inspiring projects with our neighbours! Thus, introducing the first of many print swaps… and what a swap it was!!
Upon arrival artists collected their name badges, were handed their tick list of fellow swappers and sent to the bar!
With confusion and nerves kicking in during a tense first round, ‘swappers and swapees’ soon relaxed to make some fantastic deals!
We all met some artists old and new (watch this space) and everyone had a chance to have a good ol’ knees up thanks to Print Club (and Jameson’s of course!)
And least we forget….the pizza! oh the glorious pizza!

Lauren Mortimer is an illustrator and one of the newest members of our creative studio Millers Junction. She studied at Central Saint Martins from 2005-09 gaining a BA in Fashion Communication with Promotion, before deciding to pursue her love of illustration and design.
Her drawings make reference to early children’s illustrations and with a love of the hand-made she produces new life from old. She has a particular affinity for the natural world, but typically incorporates a surreal twist in her work, to evoke an air of mystery, curiosity and wonder.
She loves ‘found objects’, birds, vintage children’s books, and patterned fabrics. Oh, and she loves pencils. We love her pencil-heavy narritive style and play on words seen here in two of her pieces “Gun Bunny” and “Bear With Me”. Hopefully we’ll see some screenprints from her soon
OPENING AUTUMN 2011
The Team that brought you Print Club London and the renowned ‘Blisters on my fingers’ exhibitions are excited to announce that they have in their hands the entire 10000 square ft beautiful 30’s Factory building on Millers Avenue that already houses Print Club London and Absorb Arts studios. AND coming soon a large Creative Studio – MIllers Junction.
We have set out to create a place that borrows from the best of a member’s club, a design agency, a serviced office and a think-tank to create a very different kind of creative environment. A place where we can provide everything you need to run your small business. And we understand that sometimes we don’t know everything business wise, so we are curating a series of talks to take place monthly over the next year. From accounting and how to give as little as possible to the tax man, to talks by the bigwigs at various agencies, something a little less work and a little more inspirational.
We are located just off Arcola Street, in the heart of Dalston. Next door to Print Club London and just 5 minutes walk from the East London Line
The space is designed to promote independent illustrators and designers who are interested in taking their career to the next level and creating networks for all those involved.
