Featured Artist // Donk London

If you’re not familiar with Donk as a Print Club artist, then you will undoubtably have seen his work pasted around the streets of East London.

Donk is a street artist working within the paste-up tradition. He combines original photography, printmaking and hand finishing techniques.

He has been placing his work onto the streets of London and elsewhere since 2008.

“I do it for me & you, but mostly for me.”

Screen Prints x Streets

A collection of original works that have been spotted pasted up on London’s walls! If you happen to be lucky enough to catch a glimpse before they disappear remember to tag us!

If you’re not so lucky or would like your very own Donk print, you will find an ever growing collection of limited edition, hand finished and detailed screen prints on our online gallery.

Donk’s latest paste-up is on Hanbury Street, just off Brick Lane as of last Saturday! Featuring his new print The Bottle and the classic B.Brave print. With the variable weather and ‘pop-up’ nature of paste-up street art, you better get down there quick before it’s too late.

Print Club London talks to Donk:

From what I grasp your three mediums for creating work are Photography, Screen Printing and Pasting? What came first?

Well I suppose In some ways paste up came first. Most of us start out cutting up paper shapes and sticking them to things as kids: and I suppose i’m just expanding on that to a degree; at its source is the same loose, playful principle.

A bit of cutting out with a nice cup of tea is also really very relaxing!

If you could only choose one practice what would it be? Or does each medium need the others to survive?

I really enjoy mixing mediums, I would hate to have to choose just one.

They all have their own merits, but in combining mediums you are inevitably forced to contravene certain conventions, and in doing so you can explore some exciting and unexpected results.

Whats does your regular day consist of?

The usual stuff, trying to make enough money to pay the rent, feed myself & my creative habits and also keep my child in fashionable footwear.

and your regular night?

I often print at night and of course the street work can often be an evening pursuit, but my longest and greatest love is my bed, so you will often simply find me there.

Do you have any big projects or exhibitions planned? Perhaps one at Print Club over the summer?

Well funny you should say that as I am indeed showing some work with the print club at this years AAF. Really pleased about that as it will be my first time.

I am also hoping to be part of a group show in the east end very soon and there is a chance of a first solo show too.

I will keep you posted on these when I know a little more myself.

What’s your main source of inspiration?

Well that really is a hard question!

I suppose I’d have to cop out and just say, ‘Life’, with all the weird, wonderful and strange It has to throw at you.

What do you love most about what you do?

The sense of freedom it gives me, and the constant, seemingly limitless potential of creative mucking about!
