Featured Artist // Cassandra Yap

Valentine’s or not, this months Featured Artist comes in the wonderful shape of Cassandra Yap! Her playful and surreal limited edition screen prints, for me, are timeless!  They create a much needed spark and injection of passion and kink into every day life!

I gain such pleasure when orders come through for print sales of Cassandra Yap’s dark and playful erotica styled prints. I always have a feeling of excitement for the person eagerly awaiting their order – a tad of jealousy as well!

Cassandra’s work explores the juxtaposition between dark and beautiful subjects to create the surreal. Fuelled by her love of pin ups, the female form and all things vintage, her photomontage halftone style illustrations are bold, dark and humorous with an element of kink.

Do you think London uncovered your love for erotica, pin-ups and kink? 

London has always been an eye opener for me. I’ve been to burlesque and Shibari shows, Coco de Mer is one of my fav shops for a bit of kinkspiration. Fetish leather accessories by designers like Paul Seville, Fleet Ilya and Tamzin Lillywhite are my biggest vice.

What recent projects or collaborations are you working on at the moment?

I’m currently working on a secret sleeve for Secret 7, a piece of art work for the garage rock band Love Buzzard, and have lots more kinky new prints in the pipeline. So watch this space! I love experimenting printing on different materials, feathers are my latest thing.

Will you be receiving or giving any surprises this Valentines?

 Valentines, Schmalentines. I’m afraid I’m not one for romantic dinners and flowers, I much prefer a romantic gesture when I’m least expecting it.

When you’re not being naughty, what keeps you nice? 

I’m always naughty.

Aside from inky fingers and squeegees what else is close to your heart? 

When I’m not printing I’m a bit of a Cakestress.  I find baking rather cathartic and when it comes to presentation, I love to art direct the hell out of a cake. Really, baking for friends keeps me sane and happy.
