This print is part of a series commemorating the 150th year (2019) of the periodic table of elements. The print has been hand gilded by the artists in genuine German palladium leaf.
Palladium was named after the asteroid Pallas, which in turn was named after the Greek goddess Athena’s friend/sister Pallas. Athena accidentally killed pallas while sparring and in sorrow and reverence for her lost friend took on the epithet Pallas Athena. Pallas is an Ancient Greek word for poise, sway or swing.
